Exhibiting at the New Zealand Respiratory Conference 2016

28/11/2016

It has been the first time that a group of Buteyko Practitioners exhibited at the New Zealand Respiratory Conference (NZRC) and I’m very excited that I was part of it. People visiting our stand - Breathing Clinics NZ - were treated to a free capnography mini session. We all enjoyed explaining the Buteyko breathing programme and the benefits of healthy breathing to our visitors.

The conference was packed with the latest research information on asthma, allergies and COPD. The importance of vitamin D in children was discussed and we got introduced to the new asthma guidelines.

I was deeply moved by a workshop with the title “Real life story – I hate you! I wish you were dead!” It highlighted the daily struggle and emotional rollercoaster with endless ups and downs of a family and their teenage daughter living with brittle asthma, bronchiectasis and a brain injury. The mother shared their story to bring a greater awareness and understanding of the many challenges, hurdles and struggles people have to face when living with a chronic illness.

On a brighter note and to everyone’s delight Chris Lam Sam – Master of Ceremonies and entertainer was brilliantly introducing speakers throughout the day. He made sure that we all got up from time to time to have a stretch and even gave our neighbour a hug. Chris was not shy to impress with his colourful wardrobe and he was making sure that we all had a good laugh during the two days.
Chris is well known for Sailor the Pufferfish, an asthma education programme for kids.

Asthma and respiratory diseases are a leading course of sickness in New Zealand and shouldn’t be taken lightly. They rank number three as a cause of death in the country. It might all start with a mild symptom of being a little bit wheezy which can suddenly turn around and develop into some serious condition.

The Asthma Foundation published alarming numbers showing every 7th child is diagnosed with asthma and every 6th person has a respiratory disease. Conditions come with a price tag of $5.5 billion each year.

Definition of Reiki

27/7/2016

A complementary therapy based on an ancient healing system rediscovered in the 20th century by a Buddhist monk. It involves a therapist putting his or her hands on or very close to a patient to boost the patient’s natural invisible energy fields (reiki means ‘universal life force’). It is often used as an adjunct to other therapies and is said to be helpful for many conditions.

My Kombucha journey

I’m making my own kombucha for a couple of years now and it all started when my son gave me a 'starter'.  Yes, it was my son who provided that odd looking living thing in a glass to me years ago.

As I was going on my journey I had some ups and downs and have to admit that I neglected it from time to time which resulted in destroying the culture. Guess, I got busy and distracted when it all took a turn in the wrong direction. If this happens to you just ask around and most likely you find someone who will happily donate a starter and get you going again. It is like looking after your plants – you need to water and feed them from time to time or they give up on you.

How does 60 minutes of Reiki sound?
Snuggle up under a warm soft blanket, listen to the calming sound of music and enjoy one hour of relaxation at the clinic.

Are the shorter days and the cooler weather already getting to you?
I don’t blame you. Top up your energy levels, let go of your worries and recharge your battery.
