It has been the first time that a group of Buteyko Practitioners exhibited at the New Zealand Respiratory Conference (NZRC) and I’m very excited that I was part of it. People visiting our stand - Breathing Clinics NZ - were treated to a free capnography mini session. We all enjoyed explaining the Buteyko breathing programme and the benefits of healthy breathing to our visitors.

The conference was packed with the latest research information on asthma, allergies and COPD. The importance of vitamin D in children was discussed and we got introduced to the new asthma guidelines. 

I was deeply moved by a workshop with the title “Real life story – I hate you! I wish you were dead!” It highlighted the daily struggle and emotional rollercoaster with endless ups and downs of a family and their teenage daughter living with brittle asthma, bronchiectasis and a brain injury. The mother shared their story to bring a greater awareness and understanding of the many challenges, hurdles and struggles people have to face when living with a chronic illness. 

On a brighter note and to everyone’s delight Chris Lam Sam – Master of Ceremonies and entertainer was brilliantly introducing speakers throughout the day. He made sure that we all got up from time to time to have a stretch and even gave our neighbour a hug. Chris was not shy to impress with his colourful wardrobe and he was making sure that we all had a good laugh during the two days.
Chris is well known for Sailor the Pufferfish, an asthma education programme for kids.

It is important to us to keep the numbers in our group classes low. You will never find more than 2-4 people per breathing group. Offering smaller classes allows us to concentrate on the individual needs. We all have different symptoms and misalignments  and therefore we allow extra time for practice and questions during the class sessions which you might miss out on in a bigger group setting.

This year Shore Natura Health is introducing more breathing course packages which will give you a choice when it comes to duration, included services and price. ​

Standard
Breathing Course STA – duration 2 weeks. We will teach you the Buteyko Breathing Method in a group environment during the two weeks. Please discuss with your Buteyko practitioner if you like to add additional services. 
We recommend to our clients to book in for a private follow-up session 4-6 weeks after completing Course STA. During the consultation we check how you are getting on with your exercises and if you require extra help. Or you might like to add a biofeedback breathing assessment (capnometer) to see on the computer screen how your breathing rate and rhythm compares to a healthy standard.

Give your child a boost before school starts again and enrol in a breathing course. Have you noticed that mouth breathing has sneaked in through the backdoor? It might be a new developed habit or maybe already a long term problem. Chronic mouth breathing can develop into all kind of health problems.

We notice more and more facial changes in children who dominantly mouth breathe. Faces grow narrow and long and dental arches become narrow. Since the mouth will stay open most of the time during day and night the tongue will now rest at the bottom of the mouth instead of the upper pallet.
