Q & A about the Buteyko Programme

How many people are in a breathing class?

Shore Natura Health ensures that the number of clients per group is between 2 - 4 people. By providing small group classes it allows us to pay attention to individual needs and to support you through the programme. There is plenty of time allocated to practise, observe and apply the breathing techniques during the sessions.

What is the duration of a Buteyko Course?

The breathing course runs over a period of  2 - 6 weeks depending on the course you choose.
During this time you will attend multiple breathing sessions in the clinic.

Please see the different course options.

Course dates / times are subject to confirmation, refer to our Timetable

How long is a course session?

Each course session of the educational programme is 90 minutes suitable for adults and children.
During the school holidays we offer special children classes (duration 60 min) please contact us for more information.

Do I need to attend all 4 breathing sessions in week 1 or can this be split?

Please make sure you are available for all sessions in week 1. Each session will build onto the previous one and provides you with more information around breathing.   We will be adding to the breathing techniques/exercises and work towards changing your breathing pattern as we go through the week. However, if you have to miss a session we will provide an alternative.

Is there any age restriction to participate in a breathing course?

Children should be 4 years of age and be able to follow basic instructions. It is important that a parent (caregiver) attends the course with the child if under the age of 16 years to be able to assist with the techniques during the sessions and at home. Please contact us for more information.

All adults are welcome and there is no age limitation to attend a breathing course. We have clients 70+ who gain improvements to their breathing pattern and wellbeing.

Breathing exercises – How does this work?

You will be introduced to the breathing techniques during your first 4 sessions. Each day of the programme you will be performing breathing exercises. This will be during your course sessions in the clinic and when you are at home.

Is there a manual?

Yes, you will receive a course book covering information about breathing, breathing techniques and exercises. The manual includes as well a section to record your daily exercises and your progress.

What if I require support or have questions outside my scheduled breathing course sessions?

During the course duration you have access to the Buteyko practitioner if you need extra help with the exercises or a question pops up. Additional support will be provided via phone, email or we get you in for a quick assessment if required at no extra charge.

Different Course options

All our Buteyko Breathing Course options are based on the same principle / method and we will teach the same breathing exercises in STA , PRE and PBF. Therefore, we run the classes together where clients of Course STA finish after 2 weeks and Course PRE & PBF will continue for an additional 4 weeks of support.

Please contact us and speak to our breathing practitioner, Pia Schroeter if you would like to discuss any of our courses.
